Digital Magazines

DigitalMags

A Digital Magazine is defined as digital edition in the distribution of a magazine’s content via electronic means. The digital edition must maintain the same identity of the host publication by maintaining the same brand characteristics.

When a magazine goes digital, it becomes alive. And that’s scary for some publishers. Almost immediately, ads become more valuable to advertisers because they can be clicked. Content becomes more rich because it can also be hyperlinked to references and authors on the web. Live content can be embedded into a magazine so the editorial content doesn’t stop at the final publish date.

And if you’re not ready for that kind of transition or development project, then your magazine has suddenly become ancient.

Many publishers in this situation, hurrying to keep up, launch digital replica editions. These editions are simple digital mockups that subscribers can read and download onto their mobile devices, in many cases they are PDFs. In our recent survey of digital magazine readers, this was the least desired format to read a digital magazine because their most desired feature is scrollable text, whereas most replica editions require readers to pinch and zoom in order to read the text.

To make a Digital Magzine a valuable and viable asset, we need to create something that is strategically interactive and developed to be a another tool in your marketing arsenal.

WebcastsA webinar is an online event that is hosted by an organization/company and broadcast to a select group of individuals through their computers via the Internet.

A webinar is sometimes also referred to as a “webcast”, “online event” or “web seminar”.

A webinar allows a speaker from the hosting organization/company to share PowerPoint presentations, videos, web pages or other multimedia content with audiences that can be located anywhere.

Webinars typically have audio and visual components. The visual component of a webinar is shared through a web conferencing tool or Internet browser. The audio portion of a webinar is usually broadcast through the audience’s computers (through speakers and media players) or through the telephone.

A webinar also allows the hosting organization/company to interact with an audience. The audience can ask the speaker or moderator (who is leading the webinar) questions in real-time through an instant messaging tool or e-mail.

Webinars have become an effective instrument in the promotion of a brand, company, product and/or service.  You bring the conversation to the potential customer in an upfront and personal way.

Webcasts

A live webcast means taking the media and broadcasting it in real time over the Internet. Live media streams are generally provided by a means called true streaming. Live streaming sends the information straight to the computer or device without saving the file to a hard disk.

Basically, audio or video content from an audio/visual system (such as a video camera) is transferred to streaming software running on the host’s computer. The content is encoded and then sent to a specialized server known as a content delivery network (CDN). The CDN distributes and delivers the media onto the Internet – either as a live broadcast, or as “on demand” for later access.

Potential end-users are able to view or listen to a webcast because a media publishing program on their computers (such as RealPlayer or Windows Media Player). This program decodes or converts the data stream from the CDN. Webcasting is already being leveraged by companies of all sizes in order to expand the reach and impact of key events, meetings and messages.
